Boo! It’s October!

The O.C. Writers Monthly Update

by Megan Haskell

Trick or Treat!

October is here, and with it comes Halloween horrors. In honor of all the things that go bump in the night, this month’s theme is FEAR. Specifically, the OC Writers blog will help our community understand and overcome all of the writerly fears we face when producing and publishing our work. Things like:

  • Agent and publisher rejections
  • Evil editors
  • Cruel reviews
  • Writers block
  • Critical critique groups
  • Lackluster sales

Scared, yet? Well, stay tuned every Tuesday and Thursday for practical advice on dealing with the demons that haunt our creative work.

Other News This Month

One of the goals Greta and I set for ourselves was to become a hub of information and resources for the OC Writers network. To that end, we’ve been researching products and services that we believe are valuable tools for writers of all stripes.

The first of these new resources is the Reviewer Grabber Tool from Author Marketing Club. I personally used this tool to help find reviewers for my first novel, and ultimately earned over fifty reviews with an average 4.6 star rating! You can watch the video we made with Author Marketing Club founder, Jim Kukral, to learn more.

Also, are you searching for an in-person critique group to help you take your writing to the next level? Look no further. Jan Draper, women’s fiction writer, and Skye Pratt Epperson, who has an MFA and writes professionally for wellness publications, have teamed up with the O.C. Public Library to host an OC Writers Read and Review program. This supportive group meets every second and fourth Wednesday at the Katie Wheeler Library in Irvine.

And don’t forget to check our calendar of events for all of the latest happenings around the OC Writers community.
